Seoul Forest Forest Playground, a garden where seeds grow

Cheongwoo Fun Station created a garden-type children's playgroundin Seoul Forest, the site ofthe 2026 Seoul International Garden Expo. The project was not just a playground installation, but an integrated play and rest space that blends with the natural environment of Seoul Forest.

The Seoul Forest Forest Playground was built around the 'Green Green Seoul Kids Cafe' in the fair space so that citizens and families visiting the fair could experience garden walks, play, and rest in one flow.

Seoul Forest Forest Playground Project Overview

Design Concept - 'A garden playground where seeds grow'

The design concept of this garden type playgroundis 'a garden playground where seeds grow'. The intention is that children will run, climb, rest, and grow in this space, just as small seeds grow in the sunlight and wind.

The most important guiding principle for the design was "permeability over flashiness. We made sure that the sequence was clear: place first, play second, so that the facilities read like part of the garden rather than standing out in the space.

Spatial organization - a garden-like playground where play and relaxation flow together

Seoul Forest Forest Playgroundis organized so that children's activities and family lingering can happen together in the same space.

The play path was organized around elements that actively use the body, such as climbing nets, crossing logs, and playing with ropes, and sensory play, such as touching sand and dirt, was added to allow dynamic play and static activities to coexist. The resting path was designed so that parents could watch their children closely and rest, as it was determined that an environment where parents and children are not separated increases the satisfaction of actual use.

Harmonizing with the Seoul Forest Garden Landscape

To match the ambiance of Seoul Forest, we applied warm textures and natural colors, mainly wood, to the playground equipment. The shapes and colors were adjusted so that the playground equipment reads more like a garden element than a standalone piece of equipment, and it is organized to visually breathe with the surrounding tree and garden landscape.

This design-build approach to the playground was driven by the intention to create a playground in the garden where children can feel closer to nature through play and where families can feel at home.
