Since 2014, Save the Children has been operating the Urban Playground Improvement Project to improve old playgrounds by reflecting the opinions of children and residents through the 'Save the Playground' campaign. The 112th project was selected as the Gobundari Children's Park in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, and Cheongwoo Fun Station was in charge of construction.
The target site was recognized as an inconvenient space for children in the neighborhood. The first task was to identify the aging facilities and space configuration issues, and derive practical improvement directions.
To establish the direction of improvement, we repeatedly held workshops involving children's design teams and local residents. The children's workshop collected direct ideas from the users, and the residents' workshop reflected opinions from a realistic operation and management perspective. Through the two rounds of participation, the direction of space improvement was finalized.
We set up the park as a 'bridge space' where various generations can use it together, rather than a space just for children. Based on color standard practices, we applied rubber chip colors to each generation's use area to implement the concept of a 'colorful and seamless playground'.
After the construction was completed, we held an opening ceremony with local residents and children to check out the newly created space and mark the official start of the community-wide project.
Through this project, sponsored by Kolon and organized by Save the Children, an idle space was transformed into a playground that connects generations. Cheongwoo Fun Station will continue to participate in projects to improve the play environment.
